Weather & the Environment
- Earth
Observatory - A NASA educational site with loads of
environmental data and images.
- SeaWiFS
Project NASA's global ocean color monitoring mission called
SeaWiFS (Sea-viewing Wide Field-of-view Sensor. Provides
quantitative data on global ocean bio-optical properties to the
Earth science community. Subtle changes in ocean color signify
various types and quantities of marine phytoplankton (microscopic
marine plants), the knowledge of which has both scientific and
practical applications.
- NASA/MSFC
GHCC - Interactive Global Infrared Satellite Data Selector a
current global composite satellite image from the infrared
channels of four weather satellites in Geosynchronous orbit.
(NASA Global Hydrology and Climate Center)
- NESDIS Home Page
the National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information
Service, a department of NOAA. NESDIS acquires and manages the
Nation's operational environmental satellites, provides data and
information services, and conducts related research.
- National Snow and Ice Data Center monitors important indicators of climate change, including glaciers, sea ice, and snow cover
- Global
Change Data Center The mission of the Global Change Data
Center is to develop and operate data systems, generate science
products, and provide archival and distribution services for
earth science data in support of the U.S. Global Change Program.
- NASA Earth Right Now. Another portal to NASA earth science missions.
- Weather
Underground Extensive weather data
- Pollen.com
Find the allergy pollen level forecast for your town.
-
EnviroMapper Find out where the toxic waste is in your
neighborhood. From the US EPA.
Live Cameras and Ambient Sound
- Explore.org Live Cams - View a stunning selection of live animals, both in the wild and captive. From exotic California sea nettles, nesting raptors, and beluga whales to puppies and kittens.
- Earth Cam - Worldwide
webcam portal.
- Around the World
in 80 Clicks - A java-intense tour of live cams around the
world.
- Leonard's
Live Web Cams - Links to 3,000+ live cams from local traffic
cams to beach cams.
- WhaleLink -
orca fm Live undersea audio from the coast of British
Columbia. The links are not working as of this date and it
appears the site has not been updated in a while. Good luck.
- Audio Recordings of Great
Works of Art - Art does not exist in a vacuum. When planning
to visit the Mona Lisa in the Louvre, do you think it will be a
place of quiet meditation? Find out.
- Radio-Locator
- From MIT, a searchable database of radio stations, many
available on the internet, from around the world. A great
concept, but many links are dead.
- World
Forum for Acoustic-Ecology - An organization that sponsors
research and inquiry into the global soundscape.
Maps
- Google Maps - Everyone knows this site because it's the most comprehensive dataset of maps, satellite images, and street views.
- Mapquest - A popular
searchable road atlas.
- The Degree Confluence
Project - A volunteer project with global participation. The
goal of the project is to visit each of the latitude and
longitude integer degree intersections in the world, and to take
pictures at each location. The pictures and stories are then
posted here. Ultra cool.

- SOHO
sungrazing comet twins On Tuesday, 1998 June 2, telescopes on
board the SOHO spacecraft viewed two sungrazing comets following
similar but not identical orbits, and entering the tenuous outer
atmosphere of the Sun --- the solar corona --- never to reappear
on the other side of the Sun. See the movies!
- The Sun Today: Current images from solar observatories. The Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) for the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) is designed to provide an unprecedented view of the solar corona
- Solar-Terrestrial
Physics Division of the National Geophysical Data Center
Solar-terrestrial data come to NGDC through a variety of sources,
both domestic observatories and world wide sources under the
World Data Center exchange program.
- Space Weather Prediction Center from NOAA/NWS. Providing space weather alerts and warnings to the
nation and the world for disturbances that can affect people and
equipment working in space and on Earth
